Eridanus is a southern constellation, representing a river. Its name is associated with the Latin name of the Po River, as well as a smaller river in Athens. It was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd-century astronomer Ptolemy, and remains one of the largest among the modern 88 constellations.
